At Fishers Do It Center, we have been around long enough to remember when our only neighbors were the OLD Sahm’s Restaurant location and the Shell station on the quiet corner of 116th and Allisonville – both two lane roads intersecting in the budding burg of Fishers, Indiana: population 5,980!

It was August 31, 1989 and there were homes popping up quickly in the nearby Sunblest Farms neighborhood when Jack Tweedy and Bert Cook opened Fishers Do It Center to serve the growing area.  Still an active member of the management and ownership team, Bert remembers the store’s very first customer – Father Eader from St. Louis Demonfort, who stopped in to purchase some locks. Later that year, Bert volunteered to make the store’s first delivery loading full his Mazda RX-7 for a customer in need.

The family tradition of operating a community minded business dates back to 1908 when great grandfather, JF (Jesse Frank) Tweedy started a hardware and dry goods store in Carthage, Indiana to serve Rush County.  Tweedy Lumber Company prospered and in 1958 opened a second location in Knightstown,  Indiana – not far from Greenfield.  By 2005,  the Knightstown store closed and the Carthage store relocated to Rushville and consolidated operations with the Knightstown Store.  JF Tweedy’s legacy of community involvement and customer service endures and has been passed along to today’s generatational owners – R. Gray Tweedy and Kim Tweedy         .

Although an organized and methodical business owner, JF passed along one superstition that is quoted and followed to this day:  Never start a project on a Friday!
